In times of school holidays such as Christmas or summer, children have many more free hours a day. One of the activities that can entertain them the most, in addition to developing their creativity and imagination, is doing crafts.

As always, we try to leave you proposals for crafts in which you can use simple materials and that you normally have at home. On this occasion, the base material from which we will start will be the plastic bottles.

Currently, it  is important to make children aware of the minimum use of this material, so a good idea to give plastic bottles a second life is to reuse them to create different new objects.

It is also important that during these crafts you are at all times with your children, since it will be necessary to cut the bottles and it is an action that the little ones should not do.

Animals with plastic bottles

Children love animals. For this reason, one of the crafts with plastic bottles that you will like the most is this, having the possibility of creating different animals from a single object. For this you will need:

Animals made from plastic bottles.
  • A plastic bottle.
  • Colour cardboard.
  • Pair of scissors.
  • Painting.
  • Brushes.

The first step will be to make a mark in the lower part of the bottle, since for this craft you will only need the bottom of the bottle. Once cut out, the next step will be to decorate and paint it, depending on the animal you have chosen.

If you have several bottles of water, you can use it to create different animals, such as a pig, a zebra or a cow. There are hundreds of possibilities; only the imagination is necessary.

A piggy bank

Children will like nothing more than creating their own piggy bank to save the money they save. On this occasion, you will have two possibilities: if you want to save only bills or also coins.

If you opt for the first option, it will not be necessary to make any cut to the bottle since you can leave the mouth of the bottle to insert the bills. On the other hand,  if you also want to keep coins, you will have to make a cut in the front of the bottle to be able to insert them.

To decorate it, you will also have two options: cover it with paper or paint it directly with paint.

To infinity and beyond with a rocket!

If the crafts you do together can later serve as a toy for your children, doing it will seem like an even more fun activity. For this reason, they will love making their own space rocket. To do this, you will need the following materials:

  • A plastic bottle.
  • Paint the color that you like the most.
  • Paperboard.
  • Gray folios.
  • Pair of scissors.
  • Glue.
  • Stickers

The first step is to paint the plastic bottle in the color of your choice. Once painted, you can stick all the stickers you want and, thus, customize the rocket even more. The next step will be to create the rocket wings and the front. For this, we will use the cardboard:

  • You will create the front part by recreating a cone with the gray folios.
  • The wings, using the cardboard and then lining it with the folios.

The frog game, one of the crafts with plastic bottles that you will like the most

There are games that, despite the passing of the years, do not go out of style. They are the so-called traditional games. One of these games is precisely the one that we will build with a plastic bottle.

More specifically, we are talking about the frog game. Do you remember that frog with its mouth open with which we played to insert chips in its mouth?  Well, precisely that same frog is the one that we will create with the following materials:

    • A large water bottle of 5 liters or more.
    • Colored cards.
    • Glue.
    • Pair of scissors.

The first step will be to create the frog’s mouth. To do this, we will make a hole in the front of the bottle, about the middle of it, with a large width to be able to insert the chips correctly. Once the slit is created, on the colored cards we will create the eyes, the corner of the mouth and the hands of the frog. And we will have a game ready to be enjoyed!
